Admission Procedure
- A candidate to be eligible for admission to the four-years under graduate programmes as per NEP 2020 must have passed the Higher Secondary Part-Il examination (10+2 pattern) of the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education, CBSE or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto.
- No candidate who wishes to enter a course of study prescribed by the University shall be admitted to college, unless he/she has passed the qualifying examination for admission to such course as prescribed under statutes.
- A candidate shall be deemed to be student of a college as soon as he/she has been accepted for enrolment by the respective Principal and has paid the prescribed fee for the course. The admission shall, however, be provisional unless regularized by the University. Provided also that payment made in shape of fee paid by a student (which is refundable in case admission or re-admission is refused) does not automatically confirm the right of admission or continuation as a student in the college.
- Submission of conduct certificate on admission: A candidate, while applying for admission to a college, shall submit with his/her application a certificate of his/her conduct signed by the head of the institution in which he/she was studying during the year previous to his/her joining the college.
- For candidates applying for admission after a lapse of time following passing of higher secondary part-II examination, certificate of conduct/character must be signed by a gazetted officer.
- The Principal shall be competent to cancel admission of a student enrolled for a programme of study if he/she remains absent continuously for a period of 20 days without permission of the Principal concerned.
- Admission in the college shall be made directly by admission committee of the college concerned on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in the qualifying examination.
- Admission criteria, preference as well as the reservation policy shall be governed according to the guidelines issued by the Higher Education Department, Jammu & Kashmir Government.
- Admission to four years undergraduate programmes (FYUGP) shall be on the basis of merit and availability of seats in a particular “Major Subject”. For the selection of the major subject, preference shall be given to the candidates who have studied the concerned subject at higher secondary part-II level.
- For Admission to Semester-I, candidate should have cleared the higher secondary part- II level examination.
- A student will be eligible for promotion from Semester-I to Semester-II if he/she has secured pass marks in internal assessments of all papers of the Semester-I.
- A student will be eligible for promotion from Semester-II to Semester-III provided he/she has earned atleast 50% of the total credits of Semester-I as well as passed in internal assessments of all papers of Semester-II.
- A student will be eligible for promotion from Semester-III to Semester-IV if she/she has secured pass marks in internal assessments of all papers of Semester-III.
- A student will be eligible for promotion from Semester-IV to semester-V provided he/she has passed till semesters-II and 50% of the total credits of Semesters-III as well as passed in internal assessments of all papers of Semester-IV.
- A student will be eligible for promotion from Semester-V to VI if he/she has secured pass marks in internal assessments of all papers of the Semester-V.
- Only those candidates who have successfully completed first five semesters with 75% marks and above shall be allowed to continue fourth year of the undergraduate programme to obtain the bachelor’s degree (honours with research).
- A student will be eligible for promotion from semester-VII to semester-VIII if he/she has secured pass marks in internal assessments of all papers of the semester-VII.
- Candidates who successfully complete their four years bachelor’s degree with honours /honours with research are eligible to enter the Two Semester Master’s Degree Programme”.
- Candidates who successfully complete their four years bachelor’s degree (honours with research) are eligible to enter the “Doctoral (Ph.D.) Programme” in a relevant subject if he/she fulfils the criterion requirement as per NHEQF.
A student who has to reappear in a paper(s) prescribed for semester-VI and VIII shall appear in the supplementary examination.
Transfer of admission is permissible only in odd semesters for students of different colleges of University as per regulations of FYUGP under NEP 2020.
Conditions for transfer of admission of students of other Universities:
A candidate migrating from any other University may be permitted to join odd semester of the degree programme provided he/she has passed all the subjects of previous semesters. Such candidates must satisfy all other conditions of eligibility stipulated in the regulations of the University.
- His/her transfer of admission shall be within the intake of the college.
- The courses/programmes of study prescribed/pursued by the candidate in the University from which he/she seeks migration are not materially different from the courses/programmes prescribed to be pursued in the University; provided that such a candidate who has not qualified the semester examination with the subjects/combination of subjects for which he/she intends to seek admission to the next higher class of the University shall be required to qualify such subjects of the qualifying examination of the University as may be determined by the University.
- He/she shall fulfill the attendance requirements as per the University regulation.
- The candidate who is migrating from other University is eligible for overall SGPA/CGPA or Class and not for ranking.
- He / She shall complete the programme as per the regulations governing the maximum duration of completing the programme as per this regulation.
A regular student i.e. a student who has undergone a regular course of study in a college for the period specified for that course of study by having been on the rolls of the college immediately preceding the examination and has his/her name submitted to the Controller of Examinations by the concerned college where he/she has pursued the course for the examination and admit card shall be issued by the Principal of the College concerned subject to following conditions:
- He/she has been a student of good conduct.
- He/she has attended not less than 75% of the lectures delivered including seminars, tutorials, practical’s etc. in each course opted by him/her in that semester.
- He/she has secured pass marks in internal assessment.
- He/she has paid the prescribed fee.
- Major Course (MJ): Any subject in a discipline in which student wants to graduate for 3 years bachelor degree or 4 years bachelor degree with honours / honours with research.
- Minor Course (MI): Any subject other than major available in the college from any discipline.
- Multidisciplinary Course (MD): Any subject/s of student’s choice which is of interdisciplinary nature from faculties other than major with the condition that the subject opted for shall not be repeated in any semester. Students are not allowed to take the same courses studied in the 12th class under the multidisciplinary category.
- Ability Enhancement Course (AE): It may be modern Indian language (MIL), English language (general), and communication skill. MIL includes Hindi/Dogri/ Urdu.
- Skill Enhancement Course (SE): Skill enhancement courses are designed to provide skill-based knowledge and contain both theory and lab/hands-on/training/fieldwork. The main purpose of these courses is to provide students with life-skills in the hands-on mode to increase their employability. The Skill Enhancement Courses shall be chosen from the basket of courses from NSQF to be notified by the University of Jammu. Alternatively the University Departments /College can propose any other skill course/s in addition to NSQF through the respective Board of Studies for the approval of the Competent Bodies (only if need arises).
- Value Added Courses (VA): Four compulsory courses are: (a) Understanding India (b) Environmental Science and Education (c) Digital Technology and (d) Health and Wellness.
- Summer Internship: It shall be a short-term internship of 15 days duration in 5th semester for job/professional training in a suitable organization or hands on training or activity-based course at college level in order to gain work experience.
- Research project/Dissertation: Project work is considered a unique course involving applying knowledge in solving/analyzing/exploring a real-life situation/complex problem/data analysis. Project work has the intention to provide research competencies at the undergraduate level. It enables the acquisition of special/advanced knowledge through support study/a project work. This course is applicable to students in 8th semester of undergraduate research program. The following mechanism shall be adopted for completion of the project:
- Admission to Honours with Research Programme (4th year, 7th Semester) shall be on the basis of the cumulative score (75% marks and above in the first five semesters) and subject to availability of permanent faculty with doctoral degree and infrastructure and number of seats in the College.
- Research Project work (12 credits) shall be started at the beginning of 7th
- There shall be a Project Synopsis in the programme based on the major area / subject. The permanent faculty with Ph.D and research experience (as per UGC guidelines) shall be the research project supervisor after being recognized by the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) of the Nodal Department.
- The college offering FYUGP with Research should have its own College Research Committee (CRC) for each discipline with atleast one member from any University of the region.
- The project report/dissertation shall be evaluated by the external expert from other University/Colleges to be nominated by the Principal out of the panel supplied by the CRC.
- Project proposal to be scrutinized by the College Research Committee for the concerned subject.
- In the 8th Semester, Evaluation of Dissertation shall be offline and Viva-Voce shall be either offline or online as per the convenience of the examiner. The Dissertation evaluation shall be carried out by an external expert.
- Research Project = 12 credits
- Dissertation = 08 credits (200 marks)
- Viva / Presentation = 04 credits (100 marks)
- In 7th Semester, one of the Courses in the Major should be Research Methodology and Research Ethics of 04 credits.
